In Texas we are on a pay scale, every 3 to 6 months you get an automatic raise. But also the legislature can give us a pay increase as well or they can change the payscale.

In Texas, to become a Sgt. you have to attend an Sgt’s Academy. But for shadowing, I’m not really sure.

In Texas, you go through an OJT training at the unit for 15 days and you are shadowed by unit mentors. After OJT, you are assigned to a shift and you are shadowed a couple of more days before they let you work by yourself.

Texas is the 80 rule, they changed it a couple of years ago. Some people are grandfathered on the old rule, but new hires, there age and years must equal 80.

Mudflap, yes I would agree that is a downfall. When I was a child abuse investigator for the State, getting paid once a month was horrible. I wish they would change that.

I will be starting the academy as well on the 19th with Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I like what I see so far. 12 hour shifts, 4 on 4 off and looks like you can move up pretty easy. The only downfall is that you get paid once a month.
