Topic: Health & Wellness / Physical Conditioning? Is anyone here besides me using THRIVE? I love the stuff! I was introduced to it by a local PD guy who closely resembles the Incredible Hulk. lol VERY into fitness. Gives me TONS of energy and I am losing weight, which I def need to do! Lost 6 pounds in one week and have so much energy I can’t sing the praises of the stuff enough! Not intended to be a commercial, but I do sell it as a promoter and you can see a short video and visit my website at www.dwmeeks.le-vel.com. I kid you not guys…This stuff is a game changer! |

Topic: Health & Wellness / Physical Conditioning? Been a long time since I was here! Lots of stuff happened to and for me while I was away! Back in transport now! Only out for 4 years due to an unfortunate “verbal disagreement” with a ranking officer. LOL He got fired eventually and here I am BACK BABY! LOL |

Topic: The Club House / The Concerns of Inmates @ MTA7035…You are so right on the spelling thing! (LOL I married an english teacher because I could not afford spell check!) I am in the classification dept. for a few more days and see all the request forms (some call them I 60’s) and it is all I can do sometimes to decipher what the heck they are trying to say! lol One this week wanted the address of his “aturne”. I told him to use the word “lawyer” next time so he did not look so stupid. It is a shame that they all seem to have this problem. I believe there is a link between stupid and incarcerated. More than just the obvious one! |

Topic: The Club House / Back in my .element after four years! I am a bit excited. I learned today that after four years of being in other departments I am going back into transport in three weeks! I left the transport department because I refused to work under a certain Sargent who was NEVER to be trusted. He was one of those “use em until you get what you want” types and did not mind stepping all over a partner if he thought he could move up the ladder by doing so. I was blackballed at that point and have been trying to get back in transport ever since. Weapons qualifying is Thursday and after that I just have to finish the three weeks in Classification dept. where I am now. I can hardly wait to get back to what I enjoyed for three years! |

Topic: The Club House / Police have no clue what we do I recently discovered a new twist in the making of alcoholic substances. The inmates on seg pod were asking the nurse for salt after they went to the dentist. Reportedly for rinsing after an extraction. They would then buy hand sanitizer from commissary. In case you were not aware…When you put table salt in a cup half full of alcohol based hand sanitizer it will have an interesting effect. The salt and other ingredients while the alcohol remains suspended on top. Then they drink that crap. lol We have since banned the buying of hand sanitizer off commissary. |

Topic: The Club House / Police have no clue what we do I have been told we are just glorified babysitters as well. I like to think that someday that will be the case and the powers that be will pay us like a babysitter. Foe example: A babysitter gets say $5 a kid/person per hour. I am watching (in essence) 400 people for 40 hours a week. What’s that mean in terms of $$? $80,000 a week. I’ll take it. I’ll even pay my own insurance. |

Topic: The Club House / Snitches The guys in seg are always sharing their stories. I like to slip into the pipe chases behind the seg cells and listen. That’s how my Captain (who was a floor officer at the time) overheard an inmate tell another that he was going to shank me and another guard the next morning. A search of the guy’s cell turned up a nice sized shank made from part of the mop bucket. As far as a snitch goes…whatever they give you they are hiding 10 times as much. I don’t give a rip what they tell me I don’t trust any of them. |

Topic: A Broader View / Cell Phones - A business opportunity? “Hello…Joe? Yeah, this is Tom. Listen. They are moving me to a prison inXYZ today. I don’t wanna go, so have the boys ready to spring me along the way. Thanks!” My biggest fear as a transport officer. |

Topic: A Broader View / Cell Phones - A business opportunity? Our jail used to house Federal inmates. They normally had access to lots of cash. A dirty officer could sell a phone to them for a minimum of $1000. (Cigarettes were going for $200 a pack and a grand a carton!) I was hired just after the powers that be caught up to the little game. lol A cell phone was found in the ceiling area of a fed cell. The tank boss in there was a very well connected guy who had made the statement that he could make one phone call and have the whole place blown up. He was not kidding BTW. He COULD do it. Lots of cash. Lots of associates. They tore that cell apart to find the phone. He made another inmate in the cell mad and the guy squeeled on him about an escape plan. They had the US Marshalls relocate both of them. Later the guy who squeeled came back (about 4 months had passed.) Within 15 minutes of being housed (with all new celies) he was nearly beaten to death. Yeah…Give em phones. What could happen, right??? |

Topic: Letter of The Law / Lethal injectionÂ… cruel and unusual? George I have to decline the solar city idea. Sorry. UNLESS we can harness that power to fry the scumbags who are on death row! THAT would be OK I suppose. |

Topic: Health & Wellness / Physical Conditioning? I guess I should point out the reason I was saying that in the post. lol I can’t do much in the way of major physical output right now due to the fatigue caused by the chemo. I get winded climbing stairs. It is a good thing that I transferred to Classification about 6 months before I was diagnosed. Not alot of physical stuff other than “pushing” paper in here! |

Topic: Health & Wellness / Physical Conditioning? Crap Jamestown! I’d be fired in a heartbeat these days. OK…Maybe they would give me a little slack. I was diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer back in October of 2011. Since then it has been radiation, chemos, surgery, and now MORE chemo. I finish my treatment at the end of August (Lord willing.) and should be able to begin the REAL rehab then. The chemo drains my strength. I can forget about eating healthy since I am very limited in what I can eat (if I wanna keep it down! lol) I work 4 10 hour days if I can make it through the whole day. Luckily I had tons of sick time built up over my 8 years of working here. Docs say they got 100% of the cancer and there was no spread to lymph nodes or any other areas of my guts. I will make a complete recovery and be back to my old loveable fuzzball self within a few weeks of ending treatments. lol |

Topic: A Broader View / Federal Bureau of Prisons I gotta inject a comment on the BOP here. I was a transport officer for three years (now a classification offocer). I dealt only with federal inmates for the last year and a half. I visited many fed prisons and liked what I saw, BUT…When I asked about getting on in a fed prison I was told I was past the limit for age by 10 years. How’s that for irony? The government (EEOE) says to all the mom and pop businesses: "You better not discriminate on the basis of sex, color, religion, or age or we will shut you down. THEN has the nerve to tell a guy with a perfect record and 5 years experience that he can’t get hired because of his age. LOL |

Topic: Letter of The Law / Lethal injectionÂ… cruel and unusual? I have absolutely NO problem with the death penalty except for the fact that we did away with old sparky. Lethal injection is stupid in my opinion because it is too easy on the POS that is on his way out. Call me cruel, inhumane, or just plain old mean…I say hang em or fry em. Either way the rest of them get the message. Laying down and going to sleep is far to easy on someone who may have been pure evil in their method of killing their victim. |

Topic: Security Central / Tasers in the Jail? Our facility had looked at the stun shield, but the problem was that we see most of our problems in the intake and holding area with incoming drunks and druggies. Putting that little red dot on a man’s chest is so effective that we just decided to stay with that rather than a shield that a drunk might not realize was as powerful. |

Topic: The Club House / Send us your mentally ill... If our inmates refuse their meds it is documented and they are no longer able to get them until they see a doctor or psych doc to have them reinstated. The problem for them there is they have to pay $20 to see the docs! |
