Topic: Everything Education / Emergency Tower Evac. My co-workers and I have had this discussion going around for several years with our Administration. To this day the scenario remains UN-resolved. Lets see how sharp or how creative you can get. There is no wrong answer, just use your best creative ideas. Our towers are enclosed with no exterior catwalks. Tower height, about 40-44 feet. The best option for getting him out is through a window. How would you go about getting him out in the shortest amount of time and as safely without causing injury to other? Were open for discussion… |

Topic: Security Central / Somthing to watch out for. Yes we have had cards and letters soaked come to the mailroom, they have done a great job in catching them. Has anyone run across coded letters from stg members? Some codes appear as words in part capital letters and lower case mixed, Some appear in jibberish and make little or no sence. There is more to codes and I don’t have that information but it seems this is something that needs brought up in our In-Service trng. Speaking of Stg’s, has anyone noticed more activity or violence in their facility, or is it isolated? |

Topic: A Broader View / Are You A Knuckle Dragger? Hey Sniper7310, got to agree with the humor aspect. If someone were to tell me the things these idiots do before I got into this business I’d never believed them. As for the recession, look around. It’s nation…scratch that, World Wide as our economey effects the World. DSHS is dropping claims as families have exceeded the time frames and are no longer elligable for benefits. For those who are dealing with Labor & Industries in a fight for disability, only adds to the stress and depression. The result will increase in crime and suicide. |

Topic: In Memory of... / CO Jayme Lee Biendl Not to ridicule or throw blame as this is the potential of the job we do every day. The risks are real and in place 24/7, anyone who thinks the offenders we’re in charge of are there for your entertainment and you feel comfortable around them needs to re evaluate. The best defense is to stay aware of your surroundings and know where your partners (co-workers) are. We watch each others back so we can continue doing what we do for family, friends and the community. The best defense we can do for ourselves is to stay alert, keep physically fit and if you can form a sparring program with your co-workers for your off time workouts. We only get one training session per year in defensive tactics and unless you work on a post that requires continued use of force practices, proficiency is non existent. When it comes to a life threatening situation, you have the right to defend yourself. Job site training is not enough, offenders will use anything and everything as a weapon against us. In closing, you do what you have to to stay alive. This job is not worth dieing for. |

Topic: Health & Wellness / Physical Conditioning? Great topic, in WA they have lowered the physical standards so that more people could qualifie and hire on. Unless you are ERT or SERT Team members there isn’t any requirements in place. My personal view point is that it is up to each individual to take the responsability of keeping in shape. Where we work and where our co-workers live makes poor off duty time gathering. Our work force is spread out in a 60 mile radius. What would be ideal is to form small groups (2 – 6) who share in working out together. Someone to spar with and practice take-downs and control tactics. This once a year training in DT’s is lacking in proficancey and technical development. Now that I think about it, I need to put that out there to our facility. |

Topic: Security Central / Inmates and disposable razors Change the process, exchange the razors one-for-one and examine both to make sure the razor turned in and the one issued is intact. If the one turned in is missing, altered or broken a call to action of search and follow through is required, making the offender accountable. |
