Topic: Everything Education / Audio/Visual Materials in Prison Hello, My name is Carmel Curtis. I am a student in NYU’s Moving Image Archiving and Preservation Masters Program. I am currently working on my thesis which involves conducting research on (past and present) access to audio/visual materials for people who are incarcerated. Based off of this research, I hope to develop a program that aims to improve/support access. There are a number of resources available to support access to paper based materials to those who are incarcerated, but there are few that provide access to audio/visual materials. The power of a/v materials as a source of education, entertainment, and information is extreme. For my thesis, I am hoping to research ways to increase access to this powerful medium for those who are in prison. I am reaching out to anyone who is currently working or has worked in the past as a prison librarian or with an organization that has facilitated prison programs/activities in the United States. I am specifically interested in the incorporation of audio/visual materials. I am also reaching out to anyone who is currently or has in the past been incarcerated in the United States. If any of these categories applies to you, please consider participating in this BRIEF survey. In NO MORE THAN TEN MINUTES, you could contribute extremely valuable information to my research. Please feel free to forward this message to anyone who may be interested. I will be collecting results until Monday, March 2nd. Participate in Survey for Prison Librarians: http://goo.gl/forms/kllTcE4sP7 If the establishment for which you work requires an approval for research, please let me know and I would be happy to complete the necessary paperwork. If you are able to distribute this survey to current inmates and would like an easy to print .pdf and a return mailing address, please email me for this information. I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration. |
