Topic: The Club House / On the 10pm - 8am Shift.

Down here is south mississippi I work the 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. shift. I have every other weekend off and the weekdays revolve around if you have the upcoming weekend duty or not. It can get confusing, but it works. Would like to correspond with others on the job.

It sounds like you are in the position of having to look out for yorself. If the others you work with don’t care then take care of yourself. Make the list like Mick says. It is really good advice, also you may come up with some solutions as you write it.

Since I have been in corrections I have started going to a health club and working out, also Gracie Brothers Jui Jitsu. The martial arts part is really good because of the takdown and control tactics they teach. Back to what I was going to say, always be prepared. The thugs will take your life if you let them, so get fit and stay fit.

I trust the female corrections officers I work with more than I trust some of the males. As far as being my supervisor some day I welcome it, already worked with one and hold her in very high regard, she is the best. So much for my little input.

I understand what you are saying about working with the inmates families. I try to work lcosely with the nurse when we are in the facility at the same time, escort for rounds and hang out when a thug is in her office. I also try to act as an interface with officers and med staff so there are fewer misunderstandings. So I understand what you are talking about. Try to find one officer that you can work with, it will make things a little easier for you.

Topic: Everything Education / Hospitalized Inmates getting visits?

In my facility we do not call the inmates family when admitted, other inmates do. The inmate is allowed no visitors, or contact at anytime while in the hospital. This includes no phone calls in or out of the room.

Topic: Everything Education / Is your corrections library allowed to have hardcover books?

No, only paperback.

Topic: Letter of The Law / Can we deny inmates access to newspapers, magazines as an incentive for better behavior?

Here in Mississippi hey are allowed access to the media, but again it is a privilege not so much a right. T.V. and newspapers can be pulled for inappropriate actions. In SEG they have access to bibles and books only. And this in a facility that shows movies on the weekends.

I think that it is just another way for the politicians to throw money at a problem rather than work out a, answer.

Mst respect for the ladies on the nursing staff. You all get verbal abuse from a lot of ignorant people, both inmates and officers. Keep up the good work.

What do you mean corrections or law enforcement. They are one in the same, we just dont get to ride around in pretty air conditioned cars at work.

I work at a Regional Corrections Facility in South Mississippi. We house city, county, and state inmates, plus by contract federal pretrial prisoners. An interesting way to make a living.

I am here from 17:00 till 05:00 will try to chat with anybody interested.

Corrections, no matter how bad the economy gets we will still have a job.

Our inmates seem to be able to gete lighters with no problems. Matches are sold on the commissary. Thanks for the information on the razor blade lighters, will start keeping my eyes just a little more open in the future.

We confiscate them as soon as we see them. They are a royal pain.

Topic: Security Central / Watching inmates at a hospital or other medical facility

At my facility the inmate is cuffed dto the bed and has leg irons at all times. There is an armed officer present at all times during the hospital stay. Not the most plesant assignment that I have had to sit through. Also no visitors other than hosppital staff, if they are not family, and corrections personnel. No phone calls or contact with free world people.
