Here in NYSDOCS inmates are tested on arrival and quarantined until the results are read.CO’s are tested when hired and once a year thereafter. If you work in a hospital or infirmary area you are tested every 3 or 6 months as you are at an increased risk. If an outbreak occurs everyone in the area is retested as a precaution.

Murdered Maryland Officer Petition…

Dear friends of American Correctional Officer:

We are petitioning Howard County State Attorney to seek the Death Penalty against Brandon Morris a cold-blooded murderer of a Maryland Correctional Officer
Brandon Morris was already serving an eight-year sentence for assault and weapons convictions when he in cold blood shot and killed Officer Jeffery Wroten with Wroten's gun at Washington County Hospital in January 2006.
Afterward, Morris took a hospital visitor hostage and then forced a cabbie to drive him at gunpoint into Pennsylvania and back into Maryland before he was captured.
Although Officer Wroten fought gallantly for his life but ultimately lost the battle. As a result, his family lost a wonderful son, devoted father, nurturing brother, loving spouse, caring friend and a dedicated professional who enjoyed his work as a correctional officer.

Well seems it is a nationwide trend…which I strangely find comforting….I thought it was just that way here in NY as it is so liberal. World is going to h*ll in a handbasket.

In reply to Brute powa & puck9921….funny thing I feel I should share is that in all my time in DOCS I have yet to see a woman running from trouble but have seen my fair share of shameless men run away or pretend they didnt hear the radio call. Also more than once I have heard our more senior veterans state they would rather have certain female Officers respond over the male officers in the area.Just food for thought :)

arzkttn….I am a female CO that has been working in male maximum state prisons for 7 years now. There are 2 points to consider…..first off….when you give an order be prepared to back it up physically…yourself. Yes you have backup but you cant stand there and do nothing then want your back up to do everything….the inmates as well as your fellow officers will lose respect. So if the order is not followed get in there and enforce it. Jesusofficer was right on that. It may seem drastic but it works. On another point…something I have seen in the past….is a female CO that spends her shifts flirting with the male CO’s and/or is dating a CO and it is common knowledge in the facility. Not saying you are doing this…however if you find yourself dating someone you work with…keep it under your hat. Inmates seem to lose respect for these women and go out of thier way to test them. Above all else treat every inmate in the same manner…do not play favorites or trust one more than another. I dont know if this will help you but I hope it does. Hang in there, sometimes it takes awhile for the inmates to realize you mean business but once they do you will be good to go.

Topic: Security Central / Dew rags

I work at Elmira Correctional (NYSDOCS) and while they are available in our commissary they are only allowed to be worn inside thier cells. This was a result of them being used as a signifyer.Do yourselves a big favor and put the breaks on this ASAP.Its a constant battle with the inmates to only wear them in thier cells and it doesnt stop them from using them as a signifyer, just limits thier visibility.
