Article: PITTSBURGH, PA (April 2, 2013) — Wexford Health Sources, Inc. and the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) recently completed the final phase of their project to transfer responsibility for health care operations at the nine major correctional institutions (CIs) in the southern part of the state. Wexford Health is now supplying comprehensive onsite and offsite medical, mental health, dental, pharmacy management, utilization management, claims, quality management, risk management, and other services to more than 15,000 inmates at these institutions and their associated satellite facilities. The company began providing services at the prisons in Bowling Green (Hardee CI), Arcadia (DeSoto Annex), Punta Gorda (Charlotte CI), Okeechobee, and Indiantown (Martin CI) on March 10 of this year. The facilities in Doral (South Florida Reception Center), Miami (Everglades CI), and Florida City (Dade and Homestead CIs) followed in a second phase of the project on March 24. The transition of health care services from the Department of Corrections occurred smoothly and on schedule. Wexford Health was able to retain more than 95% of existing DOC health care workers at the facilities, to help ensure the continuity of inmate care. The competitively bid contract is projected to save Florida taxpayers approximately $1 million per month. Over the past two decades, Wexford Health has successfully managed health care programs for hundreds of correctional facilities and other types of institutions across the country, including prisons, jails, juvenile detention centers, substance abuse facilities, mental health units, and sex offender treatment centers. The company currently provides services to close to 165,000 offenders and other residents at more than 175 institutions across the country. Wexford Health Sources, one of the nation’s largest correctional health care companies, provides medical, mental health, pharmacy, rehabilitation, utilization management, claims processing, and technology services to state, regional, and local clients across the country. The company helps governments, correctional facilities, and other institutions control inmate health care costs while maintaining quality of care. |
