The MARCS system allows only one individual to talk at a time. There is an over ride button for emergency traffic. Once you push it, it knocks out the other radios ability to transmit until you are done keying the mic. They have the mic with a clip for lapel or shirt pockets. They are expensive but, with the executive models a Warden in southern ohio can talk to a Warden in northern ohio. |

We have Motorola radios with collar mikes. Some officers refuse to use a collar mike so they leave the radio in their back pocket which is not a great idea. I tried to get management to buy holsters but with the budget crunch they nixed that. One of the problems with these radios is when you transmit an officer next to you or behind you radios blocks out the message and you can’t understand the communication at all. Another issue is talking too much on them which ties up the channel and an officer calling for backup can’t get in-between. |

We went to the MARCS system a number of years ago. Have not had any problems with them. There was a few minor problems. But, once the tics were worked out, they work fine. |

Don’t you just love the walkies? Every time I get one and I have it for a week or so, it dies on me, or otherwise becomes useless except as a melee weapon. I think TacCom gives me the same walkie every couple of weeks. |
